Myself and 30 of my brother seminarians will be ordained as Deacons in Saint Peter’s Basilica by the imposition of hands and the gift of the Holy Spirit by Bishop James F. Checchio.
It is at this time, after many years of preparation and discernment that I will promise before God and his people to forever hold fast to the mystery of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Faith and to proclaim the Gospel of Christ as an ordained minister.
I will promise to forever embrace celibate chastity for the Kingdom of God as a sign of hope and fidelity to Christ and the Church.
I will promise to remain faithful to prayer, praying always with and for the people of God and for the whole world.
I will promise a life of obedience and fidelity to Archbishop Naumann and his successors so as to live out the office of Deacon with humble charity in order to assist the priestly Order and to benefit the Christian people.
Please keep the 31 of us in prayer tomorrow, and thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you who have brought me to this point. Know that you are dear to me and are always in my prayers, and that I look forward to serving you as a deacon and eventually as a priest.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed – Luke 4:18
