School Name

From the full Saint Thomas Aquinas Identity document:

Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, with the “Saint” spelled out, is the official name of the high school. When referring to the school, "Saint Thomas Aquinas" should always be used.

St. Thomas Aquinas, with the abbreviated “St.,” refers to the 13th century scholar for whom the school is named.

This small difference is a way to distinguish the Catholic Faith Community in Overland Park, Kansas from other institutions, as well as from the scholar himself.

Please avoid referring to the school as "Saint Thomas," without "Aquinas," as there are many Catholic saints named Thomas.

Although the school is often referred to simply as "Aquinas," technically "Aquinas high school," without the "Saint Thomas," refers  to the high school on the St. Joseph parish campus in Shawnee, which closed in May of 1988, and whose athletic teams were the Blue Streaks. Saint Thomas Aquinas high school in Overland Park, which opened in August 1988, is proud to be the direct heir to the Aquinas high school tradition of spiritual, athletic, and academic excellence, but the Saints represent Saint Thomas Aquinas high school.
