The 2012-2013 Shield Staff
Students willing to sacrifice to break down barriers

Freedom of the press at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School is a privilege that very few students will experience. It takes courage to publish work for everyone to see and scrutinize; it takes a sacrifice of personal time to get the work done correctly; and it takes maturity to realize the value of the work being done.

Ten students will have that awesome responsibility next year. Though the final decision on process is left up to the editor-in-chief, the editors and reporters of The Shield have shown a willingness to break down old barriers and desire to bring back draconian discipline.

Several members of next year's staff want a more structured and a disciplined editing and writing process. Though this requires personal sacrifice of time and comfort, they believe it will make The Shield a better newspaper for its audience. 

Other members of The Shield focused their application editorial on a need for new habits. Next year's staff will reach out to the student body through various forms of media. The Shield will work closely with the technology department to create new outlets for stories that need to be told. Next year's Shield will be released more often in more forms to more people than ever before. There will be greater interactivity with the student body for content and feedback.
