STUDENT ASSESSMENTS
The following tables show the assessments that Saint Thomas Aquinas high school will administer during a student's four years.
Tests with an asterisk (*) are either optional or only given when the specified conditions are met.
Tests with a dollar sign ($) are not paid for with that year's testing fee; students will have to pay to take this assessment in that year.

|
Taken in the fall during the all-school test days.
|
Identifies personal areas of academic strength and weakness. Serves as practice for the ACT.

*Kansas Assessment – Mathematics
|
*Taken IF the student is enrolled in a geometry course during the year.
|
Measures mathematical knowledge. Used to calculate AYP.
|
|
*Kansas Assessment – Life Science
|
*Taken IF the student is enrolled in biology during the year.
|
Measures life science knowledge.
|
|
*Kansas Assessment – Social Studies (World Focus)
|
*Taken IF the student is enrolled in world history during the year AND they will graduate in an even numbered year.
|
Measures social studies knowledge with an emphasis on the world.
|
|
*MAP test
|
*Taken if the student is a part of the ELO program.
|
Measures knowledge in reading and math.
|
|
$*PSAT test (precursor to the SAT)
|
*Sophomores may take the PSAT test to practice for the administration their junior year. Any sophomore may take it, but students in honors English or the PSAT class are highly encouraged to take it.
|
The sophomore year administration is intended to prepare a student for the “real” administration of the PSAT during their junior year.

Taken during the fall – any student who does not achieve a passing score retakes the test in the spring.

|
Taken in the spring of the junior year.
|
Measures knowledge in physical science.
|

*Kansas Assessment - Mathematics
|
*Taken in the fall IF the student is enrolled in geometry, or IF the student has not yet passed the test. Any student who HAS NOT PASSED by the fall of their junior year will retake the test in the spring of their junior year.
