Alyssa Boudreau is one of the first girls in the nation to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout

Saint Thomas Aquinas senior, Alyssa Boudreau, is a member of Scouting Troop 7084 and is one of the first girls nationwide to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Only 6% of all Scouts (male and female) earn their Eagle rank, that’s what makes this accomplishment even more remarkable. We are so proud of her and pleased to share her story with our community.

Alyssa joined the Scouts in January 2019. Since then she has earned 21 merit badges in categories including Medicine, Fishing, Pets, and Camping (the camping merit badge alone required 20 nights of overnight camping in a tent under the sky at a designated Scout location!). Her favorite merit badge was Horsemanship because she loves riding horses and learning how to take care of animals. Most notably during her tenure as a Scout, Alyssa held the leadership position of Assistant Senior Patrol Leader in her troop. And in keeping with the Scout Law to be reverent and the Scout Oath to demonstrate “duty to God”, Alyssa also earned the Youth Religious Award Knot.

For her Eagle Scout project, Alyssa chose to help organize the library for the newly established Kansas City Girls Preparatory Academy (KCGPA), Kansas City’s first and only public all-girls charter school, located in Northeast, Kansas City. The school opened in 2019 with 76 fifth-grade girls. Alyssa was excited to do this project because a library is critical to developing the important habit of reading and has a proven, positive impact on academic achievement.

aPandemic protocols were a bit challenging, yet, Alyssa and her team of volunteers managed to organize the physical layout of the library including inventorying and separating books by author, genre, and topic. They also prepared the books for entry into an online library management system. The library was completed in time for the students as they returned to school in person this year.

This past October, Alyssa was among four girls and five boys to be honored with the rank of Eagle Scout at the National Eagle Scout Court of Honor. Earning her Eagle Scout was a goal from the beginning and the crowning achievement of her Scouting endeavor. It is a true testament to her character as shown in her many accomplishments.

As a student at Saint Thomas Aquinas, Alyssa has participated in Track, Volleyball, and Cross Country. Alyssa is an accomplished scholar; she is on the Principal’s Honor Roll, French National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, and Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society. Outside of school, she is a member of the Art Club, plays Club Volleyball, volunteers at Wayside Waifs, and is a proud Host Sister to Mareike Krebs from Germany!

After graduation, Alyssa plans to attend a university and would like to become a veterinarian or medical doctor. If she pursues a veterinary career, she would like to establish her own practice on her own land and raise and care for animals there. We are certain that whatever path Alyssa pursues, she will do so with heart, strength, and perseverance.
