Olivia Sovereign and Ethan Marshall sweep the Gatorade Kansas Cross Country Runner of the Year Awards

Saint Thomas Aquinas junior cross country runners Olivia Sovereign and Ethan Marshall were selected amongst all runners in the state of Kansas as the top female and male performers for the 2017 season.

Both runners won the individual state title and ran the fastest times in Kansas this fall. They were also the top Kansas finishers at the Nike Heartland Regional meet in Sioux Falls two weeks after state.  Both athletes also earned academic all-state honors this fall as well for their exemplary work in the classroom.

Sovereign is the first girl in school history to win the award while Marshall is the third boy to win this honor. Will Cole won the award in 2016 and PJ Greer won in 2008. Sovereign and Marshall are the first pair in state history to sweep the award for one school.
