Scholarships will be based on your percentile scored on the test:
Freshman Scholar “Saint” Award: 98-99% - $1,500
Freshman Scholar “President” Award: 96-97% - $1,250
Freshman Scholar “Principal” Award: 94-95% - $1,000
Freshman Scholar “Blue and Gold” Award: 92-93% - $500
Freshman Scholar “Commended” Award: 90-91% - $250
ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP AWARD - Freshman year only:
Awarded to incoming freshmen from Archdiocesan parish schools who have parents that graduated from, and are alumni of, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Aquinas, and/or St. Joseph High Schools. Based on the current student’s academic merit and extra-curricular leadership involvement. Designated freshman year award, $500. This is a separate scholarship from the Named and Special Scholarships.

APPLICATION PROCESS – Incoming freshmen applying for a scholarship must submit a COMPLETE online application. Your application will be considered for all scholarships. Your application must include:
- An online application.
- A cover letter explaining why you should be considered for a scholarship addressed to the Scholarship Committee.
- Answers to the questions in the application.
- One (1) letter of recommendation from the student’s grade school teacher, administrator, or parish priest. This letter may be sent directly to Diane Pyle or included with your uploaded documents. There is no template for this letter of recommendation. If the writer wants to email this separately, send it to [email protected]
- A Copy of an Eighth-grade first-semester report card.
Do NOT send these separately. If you don't have all the documents, wait until you do and then upload them together. An incomplete packet will not be accepted. Be sure you have everything before you upload it.

SAINT THOMAS AQUINAS SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS
Saint Scholarship Award - Awarded to incoming freshmen who score in the 98-99 percentile on the placement test given at Saint Thomas Aquinas. $1,500 freshman year Academic Scholarship.
President Scholarship Award - Awarded to incoming freshmen who scored in the 96-97 percentile on the placement test given at Saint Thomas Aquinas. $1,250 freshman year Academic Scholarship.
Principal Scholarship Award - Awarded to incoming freshmen who scored in the 94-95 percentile on the placement test given at Saint Thomas Aquinas.
$1,000 freshman year Academic Scholarship.
Blue and Gold Scholarship Award - Awarded to incoming freshmen who scored in the 92-93 percentile on the placement test given at Saint Thomas Aquinas. $500 freshman year Academic Scholarship.
Commended Scholarship Award - Awarded to incoming freshmen who scored in the 90-91 percentile on the placement test given at Saint Thomas Aquinas. $250 freshman year Academic Scholarship.

Andrew Erker Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is named for and established in memory of Andrew Erker, a 2004 graduate of Saint Thomas Aquinas. This scholarship assists students who exhibit the qualities that Andrew was most known for: friendship, perseverance, and reaching the full potential of his abilities.
Anita & Tim Link Faith & Reason
This Scholarship was established to recognize students who exhibit generosity toward others and genuinely support those around them while also possessing high academic achievement qualities.
Bill and Peggy Ford Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to families who want their child to continue a Catholic Education and show financial need.
Faith into Service Award
Awarded to an incoming freshman who faithfully represents their parish, school, and community through dedication and generosity through charitable service actions.
George Jansen Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is named for and established in the memory of a longtime supporter of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, George Jansen. Mr. Jansen was an enthusiastic presence at many events, even before his three children graduated. This scholarship will go to a young person who supports their classmates in all that they do.
Hap Kelly Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of parent and Board of Trustees member Mr. Hap Kelly, this scholarship is awarded to one incoming freshman who represents values and experience in service, achievement, and character.
Janet Koch Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of the Janet Koch Memorial Scholarship Fund, established in memory of Saint’s parent Janet Koch, is to provide annual scholarships for young women to attend Saint Thomas Aquinas High School as a means to achieve their dreams. As a tribute to Janet's enthusiasm for athletics and activities, candidates will be young women for whom extracurricular activities --- whether music or athletics, leadership roles or drama -- are a significant part of their lives.
John W. Farmer Memorial Scholarship
John Farmer was a freshman at Saint Thomas Aquinas when he was stricken with a brain aneurysm in January 1997. Established in memory of John W. Farmer, this scholarship is designed to recognize a student who demonstrates concern for others, has a positive outlook, and shows friendship to all…the one about whom all would say, ‘He is my friend.’ The candidate is someone who tries hard, has character, embraces challenges, and lives life to its fullest.”
Judy Frankovic St. Catherine of Bologna Scholarship
This scholarship is named in honor of Judy Frankovic, a teacher at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, for 25 years. It is given to a young person who has shown a love for and an emerging talent in the Visual Arts.
Kyle Ernst Foundation Scholarship
Designed for the recipient who gives 100% towards school, shows leadership both in school and extracurricular activities, is outgoing, supportive, and an enjoyable classmate shows kindness to others, is a good friend to all, and lives his or her faith every day.
Morrissey Education Fund
This award is established to assist one student from any grade level each school year who shows financial need. Eligible students must complete the application and demonstrate financial need.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles G. Lamont, Sr. Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Charles Lamont's parents, Director of Special Services at Saint Thomas Aquinas. The scholarship is awarded to a student who exhibits the qualities of hard work and perseverance in the classroom to reach goals. Alice and Charlie Lamont received 12 years of Catholic education in the Archdiocese of New York. They sacrificed to send their three children to Catholic schools and had a steadfast belief in Catholic schools.
Tim Lillis Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of the Tim Lillis Memorial Scholarship Fund, established in memory of Saints faculty member Tim Lillis, is to provide scholarships for young men to attend Saint Thomas Aquinas High School as an avenue to achieve their dreams. As a tribute to Tim’s enthusiasm for athletics and activities, candidates will be young men
for whom extracurricular activities are a significant part of their lives.
Three-H Scholar Award
This recognition acknowledges a student's unique attributes who juggle the rigorous academics at Saint Thomas Aquinas, specifically in math, while excelling in the Performing Arts. The donor recognizes the challenges for students to think creatively while scheduling classes. The scholarship is awarded to a rising senior who has chosen to incorporate Performing Arts in their curriculum since arriving at Saint Thomas Aquinas (either a freshman or transfer student.) This student shall have maintained academic progress, represented the Core Values of Saint Thomas Aquinas, and whose family may exhibit financial need for tuition assistance.
Four Core Values Scholarship
Awarded to incoming freshmen who demonstrate the Saint Thomas Aquinas Four Core Values.
Write a short essay explaining each Core Values’ significance in your life (250 words or less). Up to 10 available.
- Faith - How do you demonstrate faith in God in your everyday life?
- Service to Others - How do you demonstrate an awareness of the poor and victims of injustice? How have you responded through community service that addresses their needs, advocacy, or justice education?
- Excellence - How do you demonstrate a commitment to your education in preparing for college and life? How have you shown emerging leadership in competitive activities that benefited your team, club, or class?
- Community - How do you develop a sense of community and invest in others’ success - through your words and actions?
Saint Thomas Aquinas Scholarship
Be the Light: Illuminated by divine truth, bear forth grant light for the whole church.
“Better to illuminate than merely to shine'' St. Thomas Aquinas.
This scholarship recognizes new students who are a light to others and demonstrate empathy and kindness. They are well-rounded; in mind, body, and soul. Up to 5 available.
Brian Tarwater Memorial Scholarship
This Scholarship comes from The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation and awards eighth graders who have been accepted at Saint Thomas Aquinas the opportunity to apply.

The Faith Into Service Scholarship is only available for incoming freshmen, Class of 2026. Scout Awards are open to any grade level. A letter of recommendation is required for all of the following Scholarships.

Faith Into Service Scholarship
Awarded to incoming freshmen students who demonstrate care and service for others. The recipient must be a role model of emerging leaders who go above and beyond expectations, show courage in the face of adversity, serve as an inspiration to others, and have shown selfless determination and passion that make a difference in others’ lives—$ 500 upon completion of the project.
- Describe your project in 500 words or less how you felt upon completing the project within the application.
Eagle Scout Award
Awarded to any enrolled boy who has completed his Eagle Scout Rank through the Boy Scouts of America. $500 award.
- Explain your project in 500 words or less, along with the outcome and how it will impact our community.
Girl Scout Gold Award and American Heritage Girls Stars and Stripes Award
Awarded to an incoming freshman girl who has earned either a Girl Scout Gold Award or an American Heritage Girls Stars and Stripes Award. $500 award upon completion of the project.
- Explain your project in 500 words or less how it made an impact and lasting change in our community.
