Letter from Dr. Fallon

We hope your family had an enjoyable and healthy Thanksgiving. Between special schedules, the start of Advent, and Christmas break, our year is speeding along. We continue to pray for a vaccine and halt to the medical issues plaguing our society. Until that time, our Saint Thomas Aquinas family will “be there” for each other.

On behalf of our students, coaches, and moderators of extracurriculars, THANK YOU for your enthusiastic support of Extravaganza 2020. Clearly, you understood that this event was all about the kids…and set a record for the most successful Extravaganza ever, raising approximately $400,000! That huge amount represents 2/3rds of our operating budget for extracurricular activities. We appreciate everyone who organized and conducted this event, donated items, and bid profoundly. A special thank you is extended to our two matching donors of $75,000 each.

As we look toward the second semester, I invite you to consider a unique opportunity for your student. We need integrity-based leaders to guide us through the ambiguities, indecisiveness, and dynamic complexity of life in 2021 and beyond. At STA, we have a solution that, in part, can prepare students to lead in turbulent times. Please follow this link to our website feature on Leadership Seminars. There, you will find a parent letter, application, and syllabus for Leadership 100 that I will facilitate for a group of 16 students (four from each grade level), each semester. Given costs when flying to Washington in May (no cost to participants except “fun money” for munchies in the airport, hotel, etc.), we can only take 16 for the 2021 Spring semester. Interested students need to apply by Dec. 16 using the form found on the link. No worries – if space is not available for your student during the Spring semester, s/he is automatically enrolled in the Fall Leadership 100 seminar (no need to apply again). To avoid missing regular classroom instruction, the seminar meets on rotating days and class periods. Any questions – feel free to send me an e-mail: [email protected]

We would like to congratulate our Fall sport athletes and competitors in various academic and project-based challenges. Given restrictions COVID placed on us, it is remarkable to see the amazing job Mrs. Burgess did when accommodating so many changes! STA is blessed to have champions in our hallways…

Finally, you will be hearing about and seeing our Project-based Learning opportunities thrive at STA. The intent of project-based learning is to offer forums for students to apply what they are learning across multiple disciplines while discovering planning, marketing, engineering, etc. They are mentored by our highly successful alums. This is a unique and rare opportunity at STA. Stay tuned as we further develop our protocols and gear up for an anticipated full roll-out in August.

All of us at Saint Thomas Aquinas HS extend our wishes and prayers to your family during this wonderful Christmas season. We hope you will allow His birth to resonate profoundly in your valuable lives.
In Christ
