Standardized Test Information

STUDENT ASSESSMENTS
 
The following tables show the assessments that Saint Thomas Aquinas high school will administer during a student's four years.
 
Tests with an asterisk (*) are either optional or only given when the specified conditions are met.
 
Tests with a dollar sign ($) are not paid for with that year's testing fee; students will have to pay to take this assessment in that year.
 

 

 

FRESHMAN YEAR

PURPOSE

Measures of Academic Performance (MAP)

Taken once in the fall and once in the spring.

-Used to determine ELO placement and cohort baseline data in reading and math.

Assessment of Catechesis/Religious Education (ACRE)

Taken in the fall during Theology class.

-Evaluates faith knowledge and attitudes of students.

*$ PreACT

Optional/Offered in the fall

-To create familiarity with college entrance exams.

*$ PSAT (precursor to the SAT

Optional/Offered annually in October

-To qualify a student for the PSAT class offered in sophomore year.




SOPHOMORE YEAR

PURPOSE

* MAP test

Taken if student is part of the ELO program.

-Measures knowledge in reading and math.

* $ PreACT

Optional/Offered in the fall

-To create familiarity with college entrance exams

* $ PSAT

Optional/Sophomores may take the PSAT as a practice for junior year PSAT. Students in honors English or the PSAT class are highly encouraged to take it.

-To prepare students for the PSAT's National Merit Scholar competition junior year

$ ACT

Taken on national test dates. Lifetime maximum of 12 national testings.

-College entrance exam

Kansas Assessments-Mathematics

Required by KSDE to be taken by all sophomores in April

-Measures mathematical knowldedge

Kansas Assessments-Reading

Required by KSDE to be taken by all sophomores in April

-Measures knowledge in reading




JUNIOR YEAR

PSAT

Required to be taken by all juniors in October on national test date

-Used to determine National Merit qualifiers
-Practice SAT

Kansas Assessment-Science

Required by KSDE to be taken by all juniors in April

-Measures knowledge in science

*Kansas Assessment-Social Studies

Required by KSDE to be taken by all juniors in April

-Measures knowledge in social studies

-Earn college credit
