Hall of Fame Description & Guidelines

Saint Thomas Aquinas High School established the Hall-of-Fame Awards Program in 2012 as part of the school's 25th-Year celebration to formally recognize alumni, parents and friends that help define and advance the institution and its mission. 
 
The first class of recipients were announced and inducted at the 25th Year Gala & Hall of Fame Tribute on March 2, 2013. Moving forward, the school will accept nominations and honor new recipients at an induction celebration to be held every three+ years. 
 
Saint Thomas Aquinas will accept nominations on a continuing basis for the Alumni Award and Distinguished Service Award. Note that the cut-off date for consideration in the current year is in accordance with the timetable established by the Advancement Office for each Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. 1. Below are descriptions of each award, and also an outline of selection criteria and the nomination process.
 

Saints Hall-of-Fame Awards Program

Alumni Award
This recognition honors alumni who have exemplified dedication and faithfulness to the mission and ideals of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School through exceptional personal or professional accomplishment. Nominations for this award are accepted on an ongoing basis from all STA constituencies and selected annually by an appointed Selection Committee. Recipients must be graduates of at least ten years from Saint Thomas Aquinas High School and should be continuing to exemplify the four (4) core values of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School. This honor can be conferred posthumously.
 
Distinguished Service Award
This honor is given to a person or persons who by example represent the beliefs and ideals of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School. Qualities for induction include outstanding achievement in a person’s profession, vocation or avocation, selfless dedication and involvement that have led to the growth, expansion or continued development of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, and/or significantly influencing the lives of students through commitment to and enthusiasm for personifying the mission of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School. Recipients can include friends and benefactors from all STA constituencies. Nominations are accepted on an ongoing basis, and recipients are selected by an appointed Selection Committee. This award can be conferred posthumously.
 
Marian Award
This award is bestowed upon faculty, staff, and administrators of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School for their life-long commitment to the ideals and values of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School. Recipients of this award are identified and selected by the President and/or Board of Trustees, and can be conferred at any time during the recipient’s tenure. This honor can be conferred posthumously.
 
Legacy Award
This award is given to individuals, families, groups or organizations in recognition of long-term commitment to the mission of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School and exceptional service to the Catholic Church. Recipients of this award may be identified by the President and/or Board of Trustees, and can be conferred at any time during the recipient’s tenure. This honor can be conferred posthumously.
 

Additional Criteria and Nomination Process

  1. All nominees must demonstrate Catholic values that represent Saint Thomas Aquinas High School and demonstrate the four core values of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School. This may include involvement in activities that directly support the school's mission and/or complementary programs not affiliated with Saint Thomas Aquinas High School that reflect the candidate's Christian values.
  2. “Exceptional professional or personal achievement” shall be deemed appropriate and worthy of recognition by the Selection Committee.
  3. Areas of “outstanding achievement in profession, vocation or avocation” may include – but not are not limited to – fields of industry, religion, science, business, 
    the arts, medicine, the military, or athletics.
  4. Acceptance will be contingent on his/her ability to attend the Induction ceremony.
     
Nominations for the Alumni Award and Distinguished Service Award should be submitted using the Nomination Cover Sheet and Official Nomination Form before July 1st for the candidate to be considered for the current year's recognition. The nomination form and written description should state clearly how the candidate meets the criteria for selection. In addition to the letter, the nominator should include supporting material that is pertinent to the selection criteria, such as vitae, resumes, newspaper/ magazine/web articles, reviews, published works, etc.  It is the responsibility of the nominator to provide supporting documentation that adequately reflects, in his or her opinion, the candidate's qualifications for the Saints Hall of Fame.
 
The Awards Selection Committee will consist of:
  • The president of Saint Thomas Aquinas High School
  • A representative of the STA Board of Trustees
  • Two representatives of the STA Faculty
  • A representative of the STA Staff
  • Two past or current alumni parents 
 
The selection of each award recipient will be made by a consensus of the committee and not by individual votes. If the committee feels strongly that more than one nominee is worthy of receiving an award, they may select more than one recipient in a category in any given year. 
 
The Selection Committee reserves the right to carry over non-selected nominations to a subsequent year not to exceed six (6) years from the initial entry, at which time a new nomination form must be submitted.
 
Nominations for the Hall of Fame can be submitted to the Saint Thomas Aquinas High School Advancement Office at any time.

Nominations should be submitted to Saint Thomas Aquinas High School according to the timetable established by the Advancement Department for each Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Inductees will be notified four (4) months prior to the ceremony. Once confirmation of attendance by each of the honorees a public announcement can be made on or around two (2) months prior to the event. The Hall of Fame Induction Tribute will be a ticketed event, open to anyone wishing to honor the inductees. It will be held on or near January 28, the Feast Day of our patron Saint Thomas Aquinas, as determined by the Office of Advancement/School President.
 
The new inductees and their families will be invited and recognized at the All-School Mass and Celebration of the Feast of St. Thomas Aquinas, usually the morning following the induction ceremony.
