Deadline for October ACT

Dear Students and Parents,

I sat outside with my wife on an evening not long ago, with the colors of sunset creeping across the clear sky and the sounds of cicadas filling every crevice of silence. It seemed the night was void of anything else except for one squirrel who bounced back and forth from limb-to-limb…

Washington DC March for Life Pilgrimage

DC March for Life Pilgrimage is being planned.  It will be Jan 20-22, 2022. We plan to attend the National March for Life, the National Basilica of the Immaculate Conception and Arlington Cemetery, see the Monuments, hope to get into some museums, watch and discuss the movie “Unplanned”, have daily mass and spiritual activities throughout the trip. This a a great way for the students to see we are not alone on our fight to end abortion in the US. The sign ups are for current Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors next week, Sept 13-15 with a $300 deposit (of an estimated $700 trip, final cost will be communicated when we have final student numbers and all expenses finalized). Teens for Life members exclusively can sign up on Mon., Sept 13 and then it opens to the rest of the student body Sept 14 &15. Information and sign up materials will be available in your students' Theology classes this week. Talk with your student if you think they may be interested.

COVID-19 may impact the length and events of the trip. We will do our best to plan accordingly, but if changes occur we cannot guarantee refunds.

Picture Packages

Picture Packages are coming home soon-- be sure to check with your student! Packages were delivered this week to Saint Thomas Aquinas High School and are being distributed to your student during their STA period. They should be receiving them on Friday September 10.

Late-Start Days

In our calendar for the year, there are late-start days every other week.  We assure you we are not sleeping in, (though that may be nice) but rather are using the days as follows:

  • Faculty, Faith, Formation through School of Faith

Each school in the KCK Archdiocese devotes time for the faith formation of the faculty.  At Saint Thomas Aquinas, we take an hour every other week for this formation.  Additionally, there are half day sessions and retreats. This time is a gift that allows the faculty to continue to grow in their faith, connect with their colleagues, and finally and perhaps most importantly, we link our experiences during FFF to our instruction in a Catholic school.

  • Professional Development

During the other late-start day, the administrators and teachers work together on professional development.  The format of these days include:

  • Department Meetings
  • Mandatory Trainings
  • Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)

Academic Support

As we continue to settle into the school year, we thought it was important to highlight again the suggested steps to take if your son/daughter is needing academic support:

Step 1 -- Student talks with teacher and creates plan to get help.

Step 2 -- Student and parent communicate with teacher.

Step 3 -- Student and parent communicate with teacher and department head.

Step 4 -- Student and parent communicate with teacher, department head, and administrator.

Study, Tutor, Assemble (STA)

Have you asked your son or daughter how they use the time during STA? If not, we recommend that you ask him or her. At the beginning of the period, there is “Communion of Saints” which is an intentional time where students can connect with one another as well as plan how to best use their time. There are many opportunities available for the students and a schedule is shown each day. A sample of a STA schedule is as follows:
