A LETTER FROM STUDENT LIFE DIRECTOR KEN FOX

Dear Students and Parents,

To those of you I have not had the opportunity to meet – my name is Ken Fox. To those of you I have met several times, but I still cannot remember your name – I appreciate your patience. It is truly an honor and a blessing to come back home to Kansas City and it is a privilege to work at Saint Thomas Aquinas as the Director of Student Life. Thank you for the warm welcome...

TEAM Soccer

After spending many hours at school last Friday (for some of them 16+ hours), a group of students woke up early Saturday morning to be teachers and peer leaders to a group of kids with disabilities. The students assisted the athletes in soccer drills, scrimmages, and games. Smiles were abundant and the Saint Thomas Aquinas student body was represented well. Future sessions are: 9/25, 10/9, and 10/16, all from 8:30-10:00 AM on Field 12 at Scheels. If you would like more information to participate, please contact Susan Dillingham at [email protected].

Donate Old Purses!

Hello STA Saints parents! My name is Issy Earp and I am a Senior at Saint Thomas Aquinas. I also am the Founder of Purses to Persevere KC, an organization that seeks to inspire and empower women to persevere through challenges in their lives by providing them with a beautiful handbag filled with essential care items. I started this organization my Sophomore year, and since, we have provided over 1,000 filled purses to women in and outside of the Kansas City area. These purses help encourage self-growth and restore confidence in these women that might have been lost in trying times.

We conduct drives at local businesses and schools to collect purses and items. Last year, we held a drive at Aquinas and received over 300 gently used purses! Thanks to Aquinas' commitment to continue helping others in our community, Purses to Persevere is able to do another drive this year. The drive will be the week of October 18. There will be big yellow collection boxes by each entrance and on Friday the 22nd, there will be a $5 dress down day. All of the proceeds will go directly towards purchasing items that will go inside of the purses. These items include: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, chapstick, deodorant, face wash, razors, a hairbrush, and hand sanitizer. If you are interested in learning more about us, visit pursestoperseverekc.com.

If you have any extra gently used purses that you no longer use, please consider saving them and donating them at the purse drive the week of October 18! If you have any of the items on this list, you may also drop them off in the bins.

Also, if your son or daughter is looking for service hours, please email [email protected] for more information! We are in need of more volunteers!

Homecoming: SAINTS Make the Dream Work

  • Lots of spirited and fun activities are planned. Students will be getting more information from the Student Council. On Friday, parents are welcome to join us for our all-school Mass at 10:00, Pep Assembly at 1:30, and the Homecoming Tailgate at 5:00.
  • DRESS DOWN DAYS:
    • To plan ahead, the dress down days are as follows:
      • Monday, 9/20: No school
      • Tuesday, 9/21: Pajama Day
      • Wednesday, 9/22: Country
      • Thursday, 9/23: Dress as your name
      • Friday, 9/24: Jeans (with no holes), joggers/sweats with Class shirt.
    • Restrictions for the Dress Down days: no shorts, skirts, leggings, spaghetti straps, or shirts that don’t completely cover the naval and back area.
  • HOMECOMING DANCE
    • We realized that ⅔ of our students have not attended a Homecoming dance at Aquinas so we would like to provide some clarity:
      • Students may attend with a date (another Aquinas student) or with a group of friends. Be bold and ask a friend to join your group.
      • Tickets need to be purchased in advance, they will not be sold at the door.
      • The timeline for the night is as follows:
        • 8:00 - Dance starts
        • 9:00 - All students must be at Aquinas, phone calls will be made for those students who did not show up.
        • 10:30 - Students may begin to leave
        • 11:00 - Dance is over

Thank you for supporting our kids to make good decisions on the night of Homecoming.  Reminder to fall athletes and students involved in activities of the zero tolerance policy explained at your parent information night.
