A Letter from Ken Fox

fDear Parents and Students,

To those of you I have not had the opportunity to meet – my name is Ken Fox. To those of you I have met several times, but I still cannot remember your name – I appreciate your patience. It is truly an honor and a blessing to come back home to Kansas City and it is a privilege to work at Saint Thomas Aquinas as the Director of Student Life. Thank you for the warm welcome.

This first month of school has been a whirlwind. We hosted a rambunctious crowd for the STA v. STJ soccer game. We made it through a torrential downpour and two lightning delays on the road in our first football game. Grease has been cast and rehearsals are in full swing. Cross Country ran under the lights at the Olathe Twilight Classic. We have so many positives to soak in from the first month, but with success comes room for improvement and with newness comes growth. It took me 20 minutes to find the gym at Blue Valley Northwest Tuesday night and it took me and one other person a solid hour to figure out how to get both scoreboards working simultaneously last week. I bring this up not to highlight my well documented poor sense of direction, but as a friendly reminder that operations at STA are not new just for me, but for over half of the student body.

The current Seniors are the only class currently at STA to have gone through an uninterrupted school year due to COVID. This means that many traditions and many practices are new to the underclassmen. New can be scary, change can be intimidating. I encourage all students to be bold and get involved. Don’t be held back by a lack of experience.

Join a club – Play a sport – Participate in an activity.

We will be holding a Club Fair for students on Friday, 10/1. This is a great opportunity for all students to explore their interests and discover their passions. Don’t see any clubs that light your fire – no problem! Swing by the Student Life Office for a new club application!

Before the Club Fair is Homecoming. Homecoming starts next week – again, be bold and get involved.

Monday (9/20) there is no school. Students have the opportunity to decorate their hallways based on the Homecoming theme of Saints Make The Dream Work. Tuesday (9/21) Boys Soccer is hosting Bishop Miege HS. Thursday (9/23) Volleyball is hosting Hayden HS and Leavenworth HS. Friday (9/24) Football is hosting Blue Valley. During halftime we will have our homecoming court ceremony. Saturday (9/25) is the Homecoming Dance.

Attend a game – Sit in the student section – Cheer – Yell – Attend the dance – Actually dance.

Parents/Guardians – join us on Friday (9/24) in the morning for All School Mass and in the afternoon for the Homecoming Assembly. Then come for the Homecoming Tailgate before the game.

I hope to see you in the stands!

Ken Fox
