Important COVID Updates and Reminders
Aquinas continues to do all we can to provide a healthy environment for our students and faculty. This is a team effort and we need to make sure we are all understanding the parameters that must be followed. Please take the time to read the information below. It is the responsibility of everyone to follow these guidelines.

INFORMATION
  • REMINDER: If you have tested, you may not return to school until test results are known. If you test negative, proof of the negative test is needed to return to school. Please call the attendance office at 913-319-2415 to inform the school you are waiting for test results (this absence will not count against the waiver).
  • See below for protocol for positive tests and close contact.
  • Please call the school if you have any questions or we can help in any way.

 POSITIVE CASES
  • Regardless of vaccination status, an infected person needs to quarantine for 5 full days.
  • If asymptomatic or symptoms are resolving after 5 days and a person is fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever reducing medications, they can return to school/activities but must wear a mask for 5 days.

CLOSE CONTACT TO AN INFECTED PERSON
  • Boosted or fully vaccinated individuals with Pfizer/Moderna within the last 6 months or Johnson & Johnson within the last two months do NOT have to stay home and should wear a mask around others for 10 days. They should get tested on day 5 if exposure.
  • For persons who are unvaccinated OR have completed the primary series of Pfizer/Moderna vaccine over 6 months ago and are not boosted OR have completed the primary series of Johnson & Johnson over 2 months ago and are not boosted, need to stay home for 5 days. After 5 days, they may return to activities but will need to wear a mask for 5 days. All individuals should get tested on day 5 of exposure.
  • If a student has tested positive within the last 90 days, they do NOT have to stay home but should wear a mask for 10 days.

WAIVER
  • ALL ABSENCES RELATED TO COVID WILL NOT COUNT AGAINST THE WAIVER.

ACADEMICS

PreACT at Saint Thomas Aquinas

Hello to the parents of freshman and sophomore Saints!

On Wednesday, February 23rd, every freshman and sophomore Saint will take the PreACT at Aquinas. The PreACT is a practice test for the ACT and is administered by ACT Inc., the same organization that administers the national ACT test. Your students are already registered for this exam. You do not need to do anything to sign them up. The day will start at 8 a.m. and end around noon. Classroom assignments will be posted in the Commons on the morning of the test, just like a typical ACT.

The only thing your Saint needs to do to prepare for the PreACT is to have a couple No. 2 pencils and an approved calculator (http://www.act.org/content/dam/act/unsecured/documents/ACT-calculator-policy.pdf). They should be in their school uniform.  They do not need to study or hire tutors in advance. There are no consequences or benefits tied to PreACT scores. It is simply practice exam and feedback so your Saint can better prepare for the ACT.

The PSAT (offered in mid-October) is a different test, administered through the College Board. Juniors who score very well on the PSAT may have a chance to be National Merit Scholars, and it prepares them for the SAT. The PreACT prepares students for the ACT, which is more common in the Midwest.

On February 23rd, juniors will spend the day learning about colleges (a program curated by Director of College Placement Liz Majors) from 8:30 to 12:15, and seniors will have the day off.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.
