10% of the Gratitude

This past June, Saint Thomas Aquinas junior, Grant Pomianek, '27 and his father Matt, traveled with their home parish, St. Thomas More on a mission trip to Guatemala. Their experience was captured in an article in the KC Guatemala Alliance newsletter, Amigos para Siempre. We've shared a bit of the article here with you. To read the full article, visit, KC Guatemala Alliance

"Like most things in life, doing/trying something new can be refreshing and enlightening. It also comes with its own subset of worries and “what if’s”. Almost a year to the day of this publication, I was at home preparing dinner when my son, Grant, a sophomore at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, walked in and brought up a mission trip he had interest in participating in, along with his friends Connor (Welsh - also a junior at Aquinas) and Logan.

“Where is it, bud?” I asked. “Guatemala” he replied. I was surprised that he A): shared something of interest to dad, and B): was willing to travel to a country we have not been to and knew very little about. After we got through some initial lines of questioning, I reached out to organizers Phil & Melinda Smith for more information. There were two spots left for the first wave of summer trips for the groups from St. Thomas More (our home parish). We jumped at the chance and decided to go for it. We are so glad we did."

Quote from sophomore, Matthew Pomianek on his mission trip to Guatemala 2025

We are so proud of our Saints for their commitment and service to others. It is truly a testimony to the parents and the teachers who help guide our students, helping them to become the Saints God intends them to be.

With the season of giving upon us, it's a good reminder that:

To whom much is given, much will be required. (Luke 12:48)
