Alex Henderson Is Buddy the Elf

“I always knew I would perform in at least one play while in high school.”

This week I interviewed Alex Henderson. Alex is a junior at Aquinas and the lead in Aquinas’s Winter musical, Elf! Before landing this lead role, the only experience Alex had in theater was his 8th grade play, which coincidentally, was also Elf! In Alex’s 8th grade play, he played Mathews, a minor character, and this year he auditioned for Mathews again, hoping to relive the memories and improve. However, it turns out he had already improved, and was cast as the lead, playing Buddy the Elf.

Alex is very excited for this upcoming performance, but also pretty nervous! He has many singing parts, and he has had no singing experience before this year. Something that surprised him about performing was how much fun acting is, “Every rehearsal is fun!” The cast and crew are amazing and it’s much easier to memorize lines than he thought. Alex feels very connected to his character, Buddy, because Buddy is very high-energy and exciting, and Alex is excited to bring him to life! Good luck in your first high school play, Alex!

Catch Alex in Buddy the Elf performed December 19 and 20 in the Saints Theater. Purchase tickets here.
